Edinburgh City Chambers

Edinburgh City Chambers is a Category A listed building.

City Chambers is an ongoing project incorporating a number of different scaffolding systems and equipment. These range from a standard access tower and fully boarded elevations with staircase and loading bays. We have also incorporated a back anchored cantilever scaffold with beam sections spanning up to 12 metres. Full wraparound chimney scaffold and large beam sections that cover areas such as stone arches, Mary King's Close entrance and the entrance to the City Chambers over the flat roof. The Cockburn Street elevation which is the most extensive is also covered.

Challenges

We have encountered various challenges. The Chambers were built in 1760 at the top of Edinburgh Royal Mile. Sourcing designs and drawings associated with the build was a lengthy and difficult process given the age of the building. After extensive liaison with Scaftec Design, Cornhill Building Services and Edinburgh City Council we were able to provide confident solutions. This project is also time sensitive and J&I are working at pace to provide a fast and efficient completion without compromise to health and safety regulations.
